With an estimated 65% of all heart disease attributed to high cholesterol, it is important to ensure you eat the right foods to lower it. Here are some of the worst offenders and the ones you should try to get more of.

Unfortunately, foods high in saturated and trans fats are the ones that raise your bad or LDL levels. I say unfortunately as there are all the foods we tend to like! Fast food, margarine, butter, pastries fried chicken, egg yolks and liver will all raise your bad levels.

The absolute best thing you can do, as your mother probably said, is to eat more fruits and vegetables! These contain no cholesterol plus lots of vitamins and fibre to keep your bad levels lower.

A handful of almond or walnuts daily are also good along with blueberries which have powerful antioxidant properties.

A cup of natural oatmeal a day is said to be able to actually lower your bad cholesterol and raise your good or HDL one a little too as it is a rich source of soluble fibre.

Fatty fish that are rich in DHA omega 3 are a valuable addition too although only one portion a week is recommended due to the contamination they have today. Experts agree to get the incredible benefits of fish oil you should take a daily distilled supplement instead as they not only lower cholesterol but provide many other important health benefits as well.

Any serious diet to control high cholesterol should also contain a natural supplement to help to balance your LDL and HDL levels as most cholesterol comes from the liver. Lowering the bad levels while increasing the good ones is essential to prevent a heart attack or stroke and the right nutrients can do this for you.

A blend of Policosanol from sugar cane, Theaflavins from fermenting green tea, Phytosterols from plants and D-Limonene from orange rind combine well to maintain a healthy balance.

If you follow these suggestions for a diet to control high cholesterol you can help avoid premature death and maintain optimum health. You will experience increased energy and many other health benefits too as the body gets more of what it really needs.

Cholesterol, a yellowish fatty substance, is one of the essential ingredients of the body. Although it is essential to life, it has a bad reputation, being a major villain in heart disease. Every person with high blood cholesterol is regarded as a potential candidate for heart attack or a stroke. Most of the cholesterol found in the body is produced in the liver. However, about twenty to thirty per cent generally comes from the food we eat. Cholesterol is measured in milligrams per 100 millimetres of blood. The normal level of cholesterol varies between 150 – 200 mg per 100 ml. In blood, cholesterol occurs in combination with certain lipids (fats), hence, known as lipoptroteins. There are two main types of lipoproteins: a low density one (LDL) and a high density one (HDL). The low density lipoprotein is the one which is considered harmful and is associated with cholesterol deposits in blood vessels. The higher the ratio of LDL to the total cholesterol, the greater will be the risk of arterial damage and heart disease. HDL, on the other hand, plays a salutory role by helping remove cholesterol from circulation and thereby reducing the risk of heart disease.

Causes:

Hereditary:
Hypercholesterolaemia or increase in cholesterol is mainly a hereditary disorder.

Excessive consumption of rich foods:
It is also caused by taking rich foods and fried foods: excessive consumption of milk and its products like clarified butter, butter, and cream; white flour, sugar, cakes, pastries, biscuits, cheese, and ice cream; and non-vegetarian foods like meat, fish, and eggs.

Smoking, Drinking and Stress:
Other causes of increase in cholesterol are irregularity in habits, smoking and drinking alcohol. Stress has also been found to be a major cause of increased level of cholesterol.

Symptoms of High Blood Cholesterol:

Following are the major high blood cholesterol symptoms:

1. General fatigue
2. Excess sweating and feel of uneasiness
3. Pain and heaviness in chest area
4. Breathlessness

Home Remedies:

High Blood Cholesterol treatment using Lecithin:
Lecithin, also a fatty food substance and the most abundant of the phospholipids, is beneficial in case of increase in cholesterol level. It has the ability to break up cholesterol into small particles which can be easily handled by the system. With sufficient intake of lecithin, cholesterol cannot build up against the walls of the arteries and veins. Lecithin also increases the production of bile acids made from cholesterol, thereby reducing its amount in the blood, Egg yolk, vegetable oils, wholegrain cereals, soyabeans, and unpasturised milk are rich sources of lecithin. The cells of the body are also capable of synthesizing it as needed, if several of the B vitamins are present.

High Blood Cholesterol treatment using Vitamins:
Vitamins B6, choline, and inositol are particularly effective in reducing the level of blood cholesterol. Wheat germ, yeast, or vitamin B extracted from bran contain high quantities of these vitamins. Vitamin E also elevates blood lecithin and reduces cholesterol. The patient should take liberal quantities of vitamin E-rich foods such as sunflower seeds, safflower, soyabean oils, butter, and sprouted seed and grains.

High Blood Cholesterol treatment using Coriander Seeds:
Regular drinking of a decoction of coriander seeds helps lower blood cholesterol. It is a good diuretic and helps stimulate the kidneys. It is prepared by boiling two tablespoons of dry seeds in a glass of water and straining the decoction after cooling. This decoction should be taken twice daily.

High Blood Cholesterol treatment using Fibre:
The amount of fibre in the diet also influences the cholesterol levels and LDL cholesterol can be lowered by taking diets rich in fibres. The most significant sources of dietary fibre are unprocessed wheat bran, whole cereals such as wheat, rice, barley, rye; legumes such as potatoes, carrots, beet, and turnips, fruits such as mangoes and guavas; and leafy vegetables such as cabbage, ladys fingers, lettuce and celery. Oat bran and corn bran are specially beneficial in lowering LDL cholesterol.

Herbal Remedies for High Blood Cholesterol

1. Eat garlic regularly. It is an effective herbal remedy for lowering cholesterol
2. Take 3 grams of mixture of giloye with black pepper powder twice a day. It is also an effective herbal remedy for lowering cholesterol
3. Taking one tablespoon of honey is also good for lowering cholesterol
4. Take guggulu for natural cholesterol lowering
5. Take one teaspoon of oil of the ishabgul seeds twice a day. It will help in lowering blood cholesterol

Knowledge and Persistence leads to success
I have always been fascinated by the question ,why some people can and others can’t? I spent years trying to figure this out. At first it was mainly for myself. I remember growing up with little confidence and under the impression that others were more capable than I was. The fact was that this impression was true. It was true because i believed it.

Cholesterol is a soft, waxy substance found in all of your body’s cells. Our body needs it in order to work properly, because body uses cholesterol to hold cells together. Our body also uses it to make hormones, vitamin D, and substances that help you digest foods. Body needs cholesterol to work properly; high cholesterol, however, can cause health problems. It can cause a state and situation called atherosclerosis, the effects of which comprise coronary heart disease, angina, and stroke. Although the reasons of increased cholesterol are often unknown, risk factors include diet, weight, and heredity. So lifestyle changes alone are not enough to lower cholesterol, medication may be necessary also. The treatment for high cholesterol is to lower low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL) which is enough to reduce risk of heart disease or a heart attack. Lowering cholesterol can begin with lifestyle change, such as loosing weight and changing our diet. A healthy diet consists of good nutritional diet that supplements the basic need of the body. It provides the proper amount of energy and raw materials sufficient to keep the body healthy. It also provides anti-oxidants that make people feel proud to be young and look great. Having fair idea of why the body needs healthy food, the next thing is to learn more about healthy eating and methods of eating healthy foods in order to attain stronger body. Healthy Food for Stronger Body:
Food in its natural state: The power helps build stronger body. Fresh fruits, apples and berries are good to satisfy the sweet tooth. Vegetables of all kinds of green, yellow and orange are rich in vitamins and minerals. Steamed vegetables retain the nutritional value of vegetables. So Keep away from calorie rich sauces and fats. High calorie foods are not good for healthy life. Fish, chicken and beef: To achieve a stronger body, serve seafood two or three times a week. Ocean fish consists of essential fatty acids that are generally deficient in the diet. Prefer baked chicken and fish instead of fried ones. Lean meat, such as hunting or bison is healthier than beef, which is rich in fat. Processed bacon, lunchmeat, sausages and hot dogs contain full of garbage, it increase cholesterol which the body does not need. Even if nobody wants the meat, then they can probably go for the healthier versions that are available in health care food. Avoid non-nutrient food: white bread and pasta are made from flour that is not good for health. The flour contains no nutritional content. Moreover, the high starch content of white bread affect the level of sugar in the blood faster than a regular sugar. Moreover, pastries and sugary snacks, apple pie are non-food items, which are not good for health. It is essential that the dumplings or items must be made from whole grains. Benefits Variety of Food and Water:
Some people are very sensitive to frequency of food intake. Therefore, these people have the habit to break and eat a variety of foods to achieve a greater mass. Eat a variety of grains. Spelled is a better substitute for wheat. Rather have rice or almond milk instead of cow’s milk. People have to eat variety of foods, even if they do not like it. Drink plenty of water and limit beverages such as soft drinks. If individuals are tired of drinking water, add some lime or lemon slice to it. Serve kids with some fruit juice with carbonated water. Even green and herbal tea can be good substitute for water. However, avoid excess caffeine. Avoid Skipping Meals:
Skipping breakfast reduces the energy level by midmorning. It is better to split the breakfast in half than skipping it. This helps a lot eating lunch early, like oats, eggs and whole grain bread. Snacks such as almonds and raisins also very beneficial to health. The breakfast room that offers a better solution to get chocolate or coffee, and keeps the energy level to feel good and fresh.

Which foods contain high cholesterol seems to be on everyones minds today but the reality is that very little of it actually passes into our bloodstream. There is a far more dangerous substance we need to be aware of instead.

As you might have guessed it is saturated fat, and also trans fats. High consumption of these leads to the liver producing too much LDL or bad cholesterol and this is what clogs up your arteries and causes heart disease.

So even though foods like eggs, poultry (especially the skin), dairy products and fatty meats contain cholesterol, it doesn’t mean that they are necessarily bad for you. If you research further, you will find many different opinions but the latest research bears out the fact that foods high in saturated fat are far more dangerous.

Foods high in saturated fats are of course all the treats we like!

Fast foods, butter, margarine, potato chips, fried food, pastries and ice cream are all on the list but you don’t have to cut them out, just try to cut down a little.

If you also increase your intake of fruit and veggies (they contain no cholesterol), oatmeal, nuts and fatty fish like tuna, salmon and hoki then you will help to balance out your good and bad cholesterol levels.

Despite all this, what you consume only accounts for 20% of your total levels. Around 80% is produced by the liver, so while improving your diet helps, it is only part of the story.

To keep your good and bad cholesterol levels healthy and balanced, a natural supplement with the right extracts can provide the solution. In clinical tests they have been proven to be as effective as the harmful statin drugs, but without any of the side effects.

Great ingredients include Policosanol, Theaflavins, Phytosterols, Lecithin and Rice Bran Oil and their cumulative effect raises your good levels while lowering your bad levels gradually and safely.

So despite now knowing which foods contain high cholesterol, you now also know the main problem and how to remedy it effectively and naturally.

When it comes to the best foods to avoid high cholesterol, there are many options available to you, so here are the best ones to get you started and some natural nutrients that also help you.

It is important to note that your individual cholesterol levels, made up of LDL (the bad one) and (HDL) the good one, are important as it is the ratio between these and not just your overall figure that determines if your need to take action.

That being said it is always beneficial to eat a healthy diet and the traditional advice still applies about eating your greens and so on!

The main foods to avoid high cholesterol include fruits, vegetables especially leafy greens, eggs, whole grain rice, walnuts and almonds, fatty fish and olive oil.

You want to avoid eating saturated fats like those found in many margarines, fast foods, fatty meat, dairy products and sunflower oil and ensure you have good portions of the low cholesterol foods where possible.

There has been much controversy about eggs as they are meant to contain high levels of cholesterol but recently the British Nutritional Foundation has revealed after much research that the amount contained in eggs is small. It concludes they have a minimal impact on your total cholesterol levels and are good for you as they contain lots of protein and vitamins.

So you improve your diet and all’s well, right? Well no actually! The fact is that what you eat is only responsible for 20% of your total cholesterol while the remaining 80% comes from your liver.

This means that if you reduce your intake by say 50%, it will only have a 10% impact on your overall levels.

You may want to consider adding some natural nutrients to your diet which are proven to lower your LDL levels and raise your HDL ones to improve your overall health and help you avoid a heart attack or stroke.

Some of the best ones are Policosanol, Pumpkin oil, Rice Bran oil, Phytosterols and D-Limonene. These work synergistically together to balance your levels naturally and safely and compliment the foods to avoid high cholesterol in your diet.

We often see children on the Autism spectrum who have low cholesterol, but there is an effective treatment to help raise it. The medical community has focused for years on the issues with high cholesterol. Very little focus has been given to low cholesterol, in fact many doctors would encourage low cholesterol to help avoid heart disease. Indeed we know that high cholesterol does increase our risk factors for thinks like heart disease and stroke. But low cholesterol can impact hormone development, the immune system as well as the nervous system.

As with many health issues, cholesterol levels require a balanced approach. Sodium and potassium levels are similar, if they are too high that can cause problems and if they are too low that also causes problems. Cholesterol is very crucial to hormone development. Cholesterol is the precursor to testosterone, estrogen, progesterone and DHEA, also known as the sex hormones. Cholesterol is also a precursor to the stress hormone cortisol.

Cortisol is necessary for regulation of inflammation as well as sodium and potassium levels. In addition to being very important for hormone development, Cholesterol is also crucial for immune system function and brain development. The cell membranes are made up largely of cholesterol. The cholesterol helps with cell communication, when the membrane is pliable, it enables cells to cell communication. Myelin is the covering of nerve cells and it aids in the speed of conductivity of electrical impulses. Cholesterol is also critical for myelin production.

It becomes very apparent just how important cholesterol is to our bodies. Through the research of Dr. William Shaw and the Great Plains Lab, it was shown than many children with Autism have low cholesterol levels. SLOS is a genetic disorder where the sufferer has extremely low cholesterol levels. People with SLOS can often have cholesterol levels in the 50’s and 60’, sometimes even lower than that. While there are some physical characteristics that go along with SLOS, there are also some behavioral ones as well. People with SLOS can be aggressive, have irritability, be self injurious, and have learning and cognitive problems, and some also have Autism.

My own work, and the work of Dr. Shaw, has also confirmed that many children with Autism have low cholesterol. And while their levels may not be as low as the children with SLOS, they are still not in the optimal range. I have had a patient in my practice with levels in that range, 65 was the lowest. 170 to 180 is the optimal cholesterol range. Behavior problems, learning problems and aggression has been shown to manifest in children with cholesterol levels below 160. 110 to 120 seems to be the average range of cholesterol levels for the children I see in my practice. It was thought that the only way to raise cholesterol was to eat egg, brain or liver. Liver and brain are not commonly in many children’s diets. Eggs have 250 mg of cholesterol in each egg and people with SLOS had to eat many eggs each day to raise their cholesterol levels significantly.

Now we have a solution in Sonic Cholesterol. Sonic Cholesterol is from New Beginnings, one of the supplement companies I recommend. It is not derived from eggs and is hypo-allergenic. Sonic has 250 mg of cholesterol per capsule. Sonic can be a very nice choice to help raise your child’s cholesterol level to the normal range. In my practice, I have not seen levels go from being too low to being too high using Sonic either. It usually takes months of supplementation to see rises in cholesterol levels. However, cognitive and behavioral improvement often happens fairly quickly.

I have seen this to be a very effective therapy in my practice. But it is important to work with a doctor in regards to cholesterol levels. New Beginnings does not sell Sonic Cholesterol to the general public, you must have a doctor’s approval to order it. Blood testing is wise every few months to check for improvements. When your child’s cholesterol reaches between 170 and 180, or what is considered optimal levels, you can reduce your dosage from a therapeutic dose down to a maintenance dose. I feel that Sonic is a very effective treatment for low cholesterol in children with Autism.

Cholesterol is not a life-threatening toxin, but a medium-sized molecule that is really a building block for important parts of the body. In particular it is an essential component of cell membranes. Cholesterol also stabilizes a cell against temperature changes. It is a major part of the membranes of the nervous system, the brain, the spinal cord and the peripheral nerves.

High Cholesterol Diet Tips: –

Some people may use natural products, such as herbs and spices, to help lower their cholesterol. Some of these treatments are effective, but some of them won’t help your cholesterol at all. If you decide to try a natural supplement, talk to your healthcare provider first, since some of these products could interact with other medications you are taking.

Lifestyle changes play a vital role in lowering your cholesterol, but they can be the most challenging, too. Changing your diet, exercising more, losing weight and/or quitting smoking are all healthy ways that you can help lower your cholesterol. In some cases, changing your lifestyle could help you to avoid taking medications to lower your cholesterol.

* Low Fat, Low Cholesterol Diet
* Drinking alcohol Excessively
* Stress
* Lowering Your Cholesterol through Exercise
* Stop Smoking Now

Low Cholesterol Diet Tips: –

A low cholesterol diet is not hard to follow, given the variety of foods available. Many food manufacturers also have low fat, low cholesterol foods available for people who do not have the time to fix elaborate meals.

In order to lower cholesterol with diet, you will need to reduce the amount of fat in your diet. People who want to lower their cholesterol will need to eat mostly low-fat foods. Here are some of the low-fat, low-cholesterol foods you can choose from.
* Fruit and green vegetables.
* Seeds.
* Nuts.
* Fish.
* Whole grains.
* Brown rice.

Herbal Remedies for Cholesterol: –

Garlic: According to some studies, garlic may decrease blood levels of total cholesterol by a few percentage points. Other studies, however, suggest that it may not be as beneficial as once thought. It may also have significant side effects and/or interactions with certain medications.

Guggul: – It has been shown to lower blood-fat levels while raising levels of HDL, the so called “good cholesterol”. It is useful in atherosclerosis, psoriasis and cardiac ischemia. It has been shown that Guggul can lower blood cholesterol by 14-27% and can lower triglycerides by 22-30%.

Arjuna: – Arjuna is a coronary vasodilator. It protects the heart, strengthens circulation, and helps to maintain the tone and health of the heart muscle. It is also useful in stopping bleeding and to promote healing after a heart attack. Current scientific research has proved that arjuna contains specific medically active.

Benefits of Exercise: -You probably know that exercise helps you increase your muscle mass and reduce your body fat levels. Aerobic exercise in particular helps you improve your cardiovascular health. As you learned, another of benefit of exercise is that it aids in your whole body detox and cleansing program.

There is an increasing body of evidence that shows the serious dangers of high cholesterol medications like statin drugs. Although they are effective at lowering cholesterol, they also lower other crucial substances that keep you healthy.

These high cholesterol medications have been touted as “wonder drugs” but only by the pharmaceutical companies that make them and the doctors that profit by prescribing them!

They have two major problems – they reduce the production of an essential enzyme called CoQ10 and can also lower your cholesterol too much.

CoQ10 is essential for producing energy in all the cells in your body, destroys harmful free radicals and is crucial for the health of all tissue, cells and organs. A lack of this can set you up for long-term health problems.

As they are not a natural substance, they can force your cholesterol down too much which is bad as you need a certain amount to function properly. Low levels can lead to brain malfunction, memory loss and depression.

Other known side effects are sleeplessness, nausea, extreme muscle weakness, breathlessness, sickness, weight gain and impotence.

With the risk so high, why take the chance on high cholesterol medications?

Some of the best natural cholesterol remedies have proven to be more effective than these statin drugs and work with your body rather than against it.

What they help to achieve is the right balance between your good (HDL and bad (LDL) levels. The best ingredients come in a liquid capsule form for maximum effect and absorption and will lower your LDL while increasing the HDL levels significantly.

The best ingredients are policosanol, phytosterols, D-Limonene, rice bran oil and theaflavins which all combine synergistically to maintain a natural ratio and help to reduce your risk of a heart attack or stroke.

I hope you can see the dangers of using high cholesterol medications and how a natural remedy can be more effective and much safer.

Part 1: What is Cholesterol and Why Do We Need to Control It?

Cholesterol is not all bad. In fact, we do need cholesterol to support and build healthy cells. It also helps to produce hormones responsible for regulating blood sugar, inflammation, muscle mass, blood pressure, and reproductive capability. However, too much cholesterol in the blood can lead to an increased risk of heart attack, coronary heart disease and stroke.

There is good cholesterol and bad cholesterol, and many people are confused about the difference. The best way to understand it is to learn how it works. Two types of lipids can carry cholesterol to and from the cells where it can be used.

The first type, HDL (high density lipoprotein), carries cholesterol from the arteries to the liver where it can be processed by the body. HDL is responsible for removing some of the cholesterol from plaque, making it less dangerous over time. Higher levels of HDL tend to protect against coronary heart disease.

The other type of cholesterol carrying lipid is LDL (low density lipoprotein). LDL is the lipid that carries cholesterol from the liver to the tissues where it is needed. So, even though it is called “bad cholesterol”, it is actually needed by the body. It is typically called “bad cholesterol” in comparison with HDL’s ability to remove cholesterol from the arteries.

Too much LDL cholesterol in the blood is believed to cause a layer to form on the walls of the arteries. This build-up is sticky and other substances bind to it, causing the layer to harden and become plaque. Left untreated, plaque continues to build and harden, narrowing the passageways inside of the arteries. The artery becomes stiff and lets less and less blood through. Small blood clots can suddenly block the passage and a stroke or heart attack can suddenly happen, without warning.

High LDL levels are generally associated with plaque build-up, hardening of the arteries, heart attack and stroke. Higher levels of HDL generally keep these problems from getting worse and can significantly lower the risk of heart attack and stroke. Eating saturated fats and trans fats (like partially hydrogenated oil) can quickly raise your LDL levels. The risks associated with high LDL levels compound if you have other health issues, like high blood pressure or diabetes. Your risks are even higher if you do not get adequate daily exercise or if you smoke.

The good news is that you can greatly lower your cholesterol levels and improve your health by making a few simple changes in your lifestyle. Exercise alone can lower LDL levels and raise your HDL levels. Eat a diet rich in whole grains, fruits and vegetables. These foods contain niacin, which is a B vitamin that lowers LDL cholesterol, reduces triglycerides, and raises HDL cholesterol.

Be sure you check with your doctor before you buy vitamins so that you get the correct dosage for your body. Niacin taken to reduce cholesterol may need to be taken in a higher dosage than is normally recommended. You need to be monitored by your doctor while taking niacin to recognize side effects or drug interactions, especially if you are on blood pressure medication. Additionally, make sure that you are healthy enough to safely maintain the level of exercise that you choose.

Part 2 of the “High Cholesterol” series will focus on cholesterol maintenance and pinpoint why treatment with statins may not be the best option for you.

There can be many reasons as to what causes high cholesterol with genetics, lifestyle and weight all playing a part. Understanding where cholesterol comes from can help you find the best remedy and protect you from heart disease and premature death.

For a small number of people it can be in the genes. These people inherit a condition called familial hypercholesterolemia, which means that very high cholesterol levels run in the family.

Diet is another factor and one which has too much saturated and trans fats can lead to higher levels of the LDL (bad) cholesterol. These are commonly found in dairy products, fast foods and high fat meats.

The best foods to eat more of are fruit and vegetables, nuts, oatmeal and fatty fish like tuna and hoki.

Lack of exercise and being overweight both contribute to higher levels. With regular exercise you can lower the bad type and can actually raise your HDL (good type). Even a thirty minute walk each day can really help.

The main thing to realize is not to get to focussed on your total cholesterol levels but instead the ratio between the LDL and HDL. Too much LDL can block your arteries and lead to a heart attack or stroke while more HDL is good for you as it clears away excess LDL and returns it to the liver for elimination.

While I am talking about what causes high cholesterol, it is important to mention that most is produced by your liver so any changes to your diet only have so much effect.

The addition of a natural cholesterol supplement containing ingredients like Policosanol, D-Limonene, Phytosterols, Pumpkin and Rice Bran oil will help significantly. They help to reduce the production of bad cholesterol, reduce absorption and increase your good level while lowering the bad one.

If you use a combination of these tips for improving your diet and ensuring you get the right specific nutrients then you can help yourself to avoid potentially deadly disease and help to maintain good health.
